Vamos rapidamente aos fatos:
Estes seriam os dados apresentados numa conferência para desenvolvedores:
O documento parece legítimo, segundo usuários do neogaf.
Comentários: Don't be shocked at all to start seeing 4K remasters released. They'll work on the original PS4, but if you play them on PS4 Neo it will be in 4K.
doesn't look like much of an upgrade.
x1.3 cpu
x2.3gpu
30% more CPU power and 230% more GPU power with more bandwidth will make more than a notable difference in games.
Hopefully not many devs will make the conscious choice to limit framerates or downgrade resolution in order to have a more significant change between the base game and the NEO version. The document certainly allows for that.
Scorpio has a year on this thing so yea it's going to be more powerful.
But I'd also assume that there will be a big price disparity between the two. I'm sure Sony wants to sell this thing for no more than $450
Presentation has the confirmation that game's main "exe" file [eboot.bin] can be run on both base PS4 and Neo. So the CPU compatibility is there, all previous PS4 games will run fine on Neo.
Also, there is a confirmation that devs could target a single res that is between 1080p and 4K and then upscale/downscale that depending of the display that user has.
The interesting points that weren't leaked are:
*Neo submissions begin in mid August.
*Late September titles like FFXV are required to have a day one Neo patch.
*October onwards Neo support is mandatory.
*Neo will output at 4K resolution when a UHD TV is detected.
*They are suggesting to use more advanced rendering tecniques like checkboard rendering to get as close as possible to 4K native resolution but they will support upscaling to 4K from different lower resolutions.
*They don't believe that 1440p creates enough differentiation with full HD in terms of quality.
Scorpio isn't going to dominate anything in general because it is also locked to XB1's development platform according to MS.
And then we get into sales, where MS having the power advantage generally means little to their success without games and the user support base to support it anymore than right now.
Sony don't have to care about waging a power war over iterative units, and according to Andrew house, they aren't planning to, which is good news to me.
As long as PS5 comes out nice and beefy, this NEO unit can pretty much jump off a building in my mind, i'll act as if it doesn't exist. What we're heard about so far is a decent jump for an iterative console and likely will cost 399, which is a good deal IMO for those interested, but its not necessary at all to enjoy what PS4 has to offer. Its a PS4 refresh with higher power because the SLIM business model doesn't save Sony money anymore.
Seems like this PS4 is targeting psvr audience and that's about it. These specs aren't running AAA titles at 4K that's for sure. Seems like NEO is if you want the better psvr experience is what you buy. Kind of a let down especially after what Scorpio is.
there's a decent chunk of people that would like better looking/running games at 1080p. it remains to be seen if that will be what devs actually deliver with Neo
Yes and the document states that better frame rates and improved graphics are possible and those will be enjoyed even on a full HD TV.
But delivering resolutions higher than 1080p is also a key point behind the Neo so the idea of using ALL the Neo's extra power to improve redering at 1080p doesn't seem within the guidelines to developers at the moment.
Neo seems really positioned as a PS4K.

- " No hardware RAM size boost sounds sad
- Sony keeping 3 GiB to themselves on original PS4 doesn't sound well either (well, there was that "flexible memory" part, wasn't there...)
- If "checkerboard rendering" (I assume rendering only "odd" pixels and approximating "even" ones) is much of a thing then why isn't it already used
- What exactly is "background processing on GPU"
- Detection of 4K TV sounds like the most stupid thing ever, what if I have a 4K TV but want a better framerate
- There's something about "patch waivers", does that mean patches testing keeps costing money generally"
